Are there gateway solutions that allow me to convert plc tags to a JSON or XML for consumption by an IOT solution. Not everybody wants to have a server rack next to the plc cabinet to house a SCADA server or OPC server in order to handle this type of conversion. A product like the AB 1756-EWEB for a Contrologix but without the cost and the need to take up a chassis slot. It appears that the EWEB module only creates XML and therefore a little behind the times.August 29, 2017 at 4:13 pm #8725

We also see a need for a similar module and have a solution in development now. We are currently expecting a Q1 2018 release.
Support for up to 5 AB PLCs
Support for up to 1000 data points
The solution could be housed on any of the RTA standard hardware offerings.
I’ll keep this forum thread updated as future details and dates become available. If you’d like to discuss your need further give us a call. We’d love you get your opinion on a few technical details.May 3, 2018 at 5:11 pm #9366
In case you are still searching for a solution on this application, RTA has launched the gateway to convert PLC tags to JSON or XML. The gateway is called the 460ETCWI-N2E-D (DIN rail mount), and you can view it here: https://shop.rtaautomation.com/product/460etcwi/
On that page is a data sheet and a user guide for the gateway. The gateway supports both XML and JSON, and it can act as a web server or a web client (the gateway is always enabled as a server and may act as both a server and client at the same time). For a description of the two modes:
1) Web Client – where the gateway acts as a Web Client and initiates a connection to a Web Server, such as Apache or IIS (Internet Information Services). The gateway would then send all configured data points to the Web Server cyclically in a HTTP POST operation.
2) Web Server – where the gateway acts as a Web Server and responds to HTTP POST and HTTP Get requests from a Web Services Client, such as a web browser or Excel. No special configuration is needed to configure the server side of the gateway.
If you are interested in this gateway, visit the product page above or call us at 262-436-9299.

I saw that on the webpage this product is coming soon. That’s great! Would it be possible for you to provide an html document that previews what the device makes available example JSON and XML. This will allow me to develop code that parses the html. A broad example of PLC tags values and types would work great. Thanks.
