You are here: / / Can an Ethernet/ip network have more than 1 Master/Scanner
Sorry if this question is obvious. I couldnt find the answer online in a reasonable amount of time, so I figured it best to ask at the fountain of all things EIP ;-).
Have a new project on the books and looking at the best control network to use. I found info regarding Profinet allowing multiple controllers/Masters, I also found info regarding EtherCAT allowing multiple masters, but I could not find info on EIP allowing multiple Master/Scanners.
So – Can EIP networks be configured with Multiple Masters. Say a SCADA PC and HMI reading from and writing to All Slaves and Masters on the EIP. But also a PLC Master/Scanner, reading and writing to all Slaves?
I believe the answer is yes it can, but wanted to make sure.
To answer your Question, Yes. EIP does allow for more then one Scanner on its network. You might run into a Issue if more then one Scanner is trying to connect to a single Adapter that only supports one IO connection.
In EIP, It utilizes a Scanner/Adapter relationship instead of Master/Slave relationship.
