"Who Else Needs To Move Data In An Ethernet TCP/IP Packet
A Modbus TCP Client? "
Are you confused about Ethernet communications? Many of us are. Here is a quick summary. Ethernet is the base physical layer communications. Ethernet is the pipe. In the pipe we have TCP/IP packets usually referred to as TCP. Data in a TCP packet is specific to an application. Usually it has a very highly structured data like your email or browser data.

Other times the data in a TCP packet is very specific to a device. For example, a manufacturer of weigh scales may put the weigh data in a TCP/IP packet in a format like “ 125.56 grams”. Unfortunately, many HMIs, Programmable Controllers and other devices aren’t able to open a TCP/IP packet like this and process the data. They need it much more highly structured.

Well, that’s the device that we have. It takes the data out of a TCP/IP packet and stores in a set of registers that can be read by a Modbus TCP Client. A Modbus TCP Client is a device that can read registers from a Modbus TCP Server. This allows your HMI, Programmable Controller or other device to easily get the data from an unstructured TCP/IP packet.
