MISTAKE #3 - Using a Cheap, Low Performance TCP/IP Stack

More than one of our customers has created problems passing EtherNet/IP conformance testing by selecting an off-the shelf, low priced or free TCP/IP stack. Not all TCP/IP stacks are created equal. In fact, some people have reported that expensive, high end stacks are nothing more than a re-packaged free TCP/IP stack. Other stacks lack the interfaces which allow fine tuning of TCP/IP operation. One in particular that many of our customers use fails to support EtherNet/IP multitasking. Great care is required when selecting an EtherNet/IP TCP/IP stacks. If you need a TCP/IP stack, a good selection criteria is to find one that is already part of a product that has passed Conformance Certification.		*EtherNet/IP - Modbus TCP - PROFInet EmbeddedGateway*
