| In 1994, DeviceNet was introduced by Allen-Bradley and made an open specification at the request of major automotive customers like General Motors. Open DeviceNet Vendor Association became the owner of the technology, and within a few years over 300 vendors were producing DeviceNet products. DeviceNet truly “broke the ice” in the United States for open protocols in automation, just as Profibus had already been doing in Europe before that. In fact, one of the reasons for DeviceNet’s inception was that Profibus was coming (thanks to Siemens) and represented a threat to U.S. vendors.
Today DeviceNet is very popular in automotive, semiconductor, material handling and many other parts of the automation business. In fact, DeviceNet capability is a prerequisite for participation in many new automation projects. Quite frankly, today it is a mistake to not support DeviceNet.
You can now add DeviceNet communications to your industrial product quickly and easily with the DeviceNet Embedded Gateway from Real Time Automation, Inc.. Developed specifically for high performance industrial applications, you can have communications with Rockwell ControlLogix Programmable Controllers in days not weeks, months or years. The market for DeviceNet continues to grow faster than the Industrial Automation market as a whole. If you aren’t offering your customers a DeviceNet solution today, you can be sure you competitors will tomorrow.
How easy is it to add the DeviceNet Embedded Gateway to your product? If you have a UART, you can provide 500ma at 3.3V and allocate 2” x 2.6” of space, you can use the 490DN DeviceNet gateway.
How easy is it to integrate the DeviceNet Embedded Gateway into your product? It’s easy, especially if you already know Modbus RTU communications. The gateway is simply a Modbus RTU Slave to the processor on your host hardware. The concept is very simple. You read and write registers in the gateway at your pleasure. When you have new I/O or other data ready, write the gateway. When you need data from the DeviceNet network, read the gateway. No additional communications are required.
And if you don’t know Modbus RTU and don’t have the software? Don’t worry. You Get it with the DeviceNet Gateway and YOU GET IT FOR FREE! |
