The Problem: The need for a smaller, less expensive zone controller.
Real Time Automation, Inc. was recently sought out by a company to help them produce a new zone controller that would drive material handling conveyor belts. The company had a client who was currently using an "off the shelf" solution that was both expensive and substantially large. The company wanted to provide their client with a cheaper, smaller solution to the current zone controller box.
The company knew what they wanted to do, but did not have the resources and know-how to complete this project on their own. They decided to outsource to find a helpful solution, and this is where Real Time Automation came into the picture.
The Solution: A Highly Tailored AS-Interface from Real Time Automation, Inc.

Real Time Automation took on the project deciding that using an AS-Interface for the controller would be the best solution. The new solution was about a third of the size of the original zone controller and more than half the price. The zone controller is and AS-Interface Slave which receives 4 bits over the bus system to the AS-Interface Master. RTA's zone controller also provided more functionality, including feedback from the motors to verify the correct state of the motors, and diagnostic LEDs to signal the state of the inputs, outputs, and overall operation of the zone controller.
